The Dying Times Runs for a Month

Posted by:

The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story has been out for a month (as of yesterday).  My, my, does time fly!  This article is to look at the sales of the book with little to no advertising whatsoever.  With the Kickstarter project 7 days out from fulfillment, we will see some real advertising effort in January and beyond, but this article focuses on the data we do have based solely on publicity and social networking efforts.  To make it even better, I’ve ...

Posted by:

This is a cross-post of an article I wrote for EzineArticles.  You can view the original post here.

It is often a dream or a distant goal to have your own book published, in print, in your hands. The internet and print on demand have changed that dream into a reality for many, and the process is creating many authors every day. I used Lightning Source for this process, but you could ...

Is Traditional Publishing Dying?

Posted by:

There has been a great deal of discussion and controversy over the question:  Is Traditional Publishing Dying?  For those who are not aware of the conversation or the meaning of the question, I will explain.  Many different people have been saying that the large publishing houses will soon be finished or reduced to rubble and that the self-publishers will take over.  For my take, read the rest of this story.

Traditional Publishers vs. Self-Publishers

I will discuss briefly the difference between traditional ...

The Self-Publishing Business Model

Posted by:

In this post, I will discuss the self-publishing business model in general, and the different methods commonly seen in the process of publishing a book.  These steps can be described as being from the very simple and easy all the way up to the very advanced and troublesome, depending on the route that the publisher decides to go throughout the process.

I must also apologize for the infrequency of my posting of late.  Even more than a month out from The ...

Indie Author, Self-Pub Group on Facebook

Posted by:

This post is more or less to get the ball rolling and to further explain what this group is for, what the people in this group do, and why it might be of interest to others to look into it.  In this post, I do a little bit of Q&A about the general idea behind independent authorship and self-publishing.

– What is Independent Authorship and Self Publishing?

For anything to be considered and understood, it must first be ...

Working on The Dying Times Cover

Posted by:

Getting some work done on The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story‘s cover.  I’m thinking it’s not looking too bad.  It took a little bit of editing to get it whipped into shape.  All in all, I’m liking it.

This is, of course, a lower resolution version of the final cover.  Posting the actual one up on the website would burn way too much bandwidth.  Besides, the fine detail can be saved for the print version.

From left to right, back row:  John, Wayne, ...

A bit on bleed

Posted by:

In this post, I discuss a little bit about the technicalities of self publishing (or really publishing in general): bleed and trim.

Bleed is defined (by Wikipedia) as “a printing term that refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet after trimming. The bleed is the part on the side of your document that gives the printer that small amount of space to move around paper ...

Self Publishing Observations

Posted by:

Of course, as noted throughout the site, the first title available from Late Nite Books is the d10 Core Roleplaying Game System Pocket Companion & Core Rulebook available on Amazon.  This, of course, is a major step for me personally and my fledgling company, so I decided that I would share a little bit of my insights into this process.

I am very happy that my first book turned out so well, and I am even more satisfied ...

d10 Core System PDF available (FREE!)

Posted by:

This is an older article. Please refer to the newer stuff!

After a great deal of deliberation with myself, my family, colleagues, friends, and strangers, I have decided to release an eBook version of the d10 Core Roleplaying Game System free of charge from my website.  I will explain why I decided to do this, and then I’ll tell you how and where to get it.

The first and foremost reason is that no one out there has any valid reason to ...
