Book Marketing and Promotion

Posted by:

I’ve been asked from time to time how to get a book out there and get it going, so I decided to make a post about it instead of telling everyone individually. I have a book marketing eBook on Amazon (for $0.99) and it’s on Smashwords (for free), so you can check it out if you want to learn some extra tips on marketing just to Amazon’s crowd. This is more of a general book marketing and promotion post to ...

KindleProcessor, a tool from Late Nite Books

Posted by:

I have created the KindleProcessor, a tool for processing manuscripts into properly-formatted (in essence, cosmetically “pretty” and easier to read) versions.  Basically, you put in your quarter, upload the file, and it sends you a file that can be uploaded straight to Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing site for immediate distribution.

The project started as a simple automated macro for me to format my own Kindle eBooks, but I decided to share the tool with others who need it.  ...

Loss Leaders and Giveaways

Posted by:

What are loss leaders?  Can they help you?

In the self-publishing world (and in product sales in general), a loss leader is a product that you put out in front of people at a cheap price – sometimes at a loss to yourself, thus the term “loss” leader – which is meant to entice people into trying out the cheap one in favor of possibly purchasing the other products (in my case, books) that you publish later on.

This article discusses the ...

The Dying Times now for $0.99

Posted by:

You heard it right.  The Dying Times is now available for only 99 cents.  It’s the closest to a free sample of the series that I can drag myself kicking and screaming to accept.  I haven’t decided if I will leave it at that price forever or increase it again after The War of the Dead comes out.  Maybe it will depend on whether or not it sells well at this new price tag.  It has so far, but I’ll ...

Self-Publishing Book in the works?

Posted by:

I’ve started writing a few bits and pieces on a possible new book – a book about self-publishing.  It may become my first non-fiction piece.

Basically, it’s a book that shows you how to do the same thing that I do.  Well, I should say that it helps you publish your own book in print and distribute it.  I can’t really teach people how to write a good story.  That comes from somewhere deep inside.  I can, however, teach people how ...

How PublishAmerica Works

Posted by:

Before I start explaining how PublishAmerica works, I must indicate now that I have never been an author held with their yoke or associated with them in any way.  This article is merely to serve as a warning to those considering PublishAmerica or any similar service.  (Note:  This is not a self-endorsement of any kind, either.  At the present time, Late Nite Books only publishes one author – Brian Kittrell.)

So, let’s get started, shall we?  Do you have the courage to walk ...

Riches vs. Fame: An analysis

Posted by:

In a recent blog article by Stephen Leather, who is leading the sales on Amazon UK Kindle with his title Once Bitten, he shows his sales numbers and talks a bit about the number of sales he has received.  US sales are not quite as high, but I’m sure that he will start accumulating them with the $0.99 price tag.

I also must first disclose that Stephen and I had a rather rough first conversation in which I ...

Trial Run on eBay in the Works?

Posted by:

I’ve been thinking lately about how I can find the average price that people want to pay for the print copy of the book.  As a result of a couple of Facebook status updates and some looking around, it suddenly struck me:  maybe eBay can be used as a trial run for the book to determine a good price.

Think about it:  millions of people look at eBay to bid on stuff.  People are more willing to put in a bid ...

Sales Approaching 300, over 200 sold in December

Posted by:

I just wanted to make a post regarding sales for December, and, of course, I wanted to thank everyone who has purchased.  I certainly hope you enjoy the book!

This little hobby of mine is becoming a great source of additional income, it would seem.  I’m far off from making this a full-time job, of course, but the little extra boost to my income should help ease the tension at home and pay a few bills.  That’s all I really expected ...

Today’s News: Amazon sales and more

Posted by:

I didn’t want to write three separate blogs for today’s happenings, so I went ahead and combined them all into one for today’s update.  First, I’ve purchased the domain reviewswap.com (which is not up yet in any form), and I will begin working on some custom software to allow independent authors the ability to read each others’ books, post reviews to the website, and agree to post the reviews to Amazon, as well.  This won’t just be an automatic 5-star ...

The Dying Times is to be an Audiobook and more

Posted by:

Everyone calm down!  I’m not reading it myself, so you won’t have to hear my voice on there!  Now, let us continue…

Technology is a wonderful thing.  By using expensive advanced software, The Dying Times will be released in audiobook format for your enjoyment.  The first sample is available for those who are interested on The Dying Times official page.  Of all the voices available, I decided on the younger British female voice; it’s calm, relaxing, ...

The Dying Times Runs for a Month

Posted by:

The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story has been out for a month (as of yesterday).  My, my, does time fly!  This article is to look at the sales of the book with little to no advertising whatsoever.  With the Kickstarter project 7 days out from fulfillment, we will see some real advertising effort in January and beyond, but this article focuses on the data we do have based solely on publicity and social networking efforts.  To make it even better, I’ve ...

Self Publishing Through Third Party Printers

Posted by:

This is a cross-post of an article I wrote for EzineArticles.  You can view the original post here.

It is often a dream or a distant goal to have your own book published, in print, in your hands. The internet and print on demand have changed that dream into a reality for many, and the process is creating many authors every day. I used Lightning Source for this process, but you could ...

Is Traditional Publishing Dying?

Posted by:

There has been a great deal of discussion and controversy over the question:  Is Traditional Publishing Dying?  For those who are not aware of the conversation or the meaning of the question, I will explain.  Many different people have been saying that the large publishing houses will soon be finished or reduced to rubble and that the self-publishers will take over.  For my take, read the rest of this story.

Traditional Publishers vs. Self-Publishers

I will discuss briefly the difference between traditional ...
