Another Review in for The Dying Times

Posted by:

This review is from Nickie Hopkins, an independent reviewer.  She said,
Unlike Stephen King or even Jack London, “Dying Times” was easier to follow, and yet at the same time, just as interesting. An excellent read.  If this book was a movie, I would be the first one in line to buy my ticket.

Thanks, Nickie!  Glad to have positive reviews coming in!

Indie Author, Self-Pub Group on Facebook

Posted by:

This post is more or less to get the ball rolling and to further explain what this group is for, what the people in this group do, and why it might be of interest to others to look into it.  In this post, I do a little bit of Q&A about the general idea behind independent authorship and self-publishing.

– What is Independent Authorship and Self Publishing?

For anything to be considered and understood, it must first be ...

Working on The Dying Times Cover

Posted by:

Getting some work done on The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story‘s cover.  I’m thinking it’s not looking too bad.  It took a little bit of editing to get it whipped into shape.  All in all, I’m liking it.

This is, of course, a lower resolution version of the final cover.  Posting the actual one up on the website would burn way too much bandwidth.  Besides, the fine detail can be saved for the print version.

From left to right, back row:  John, Wayne, ...

Review from Author at Lighthouse Dreams

Posted by:

Though certainly not the same genre of book, there are plenty of positive things said and a couple of things for me to work on before the final release in November.  Here are the reviewer’s words:

“This book shows definite potential to be a great novel.  It held my interest although it needs further development of the characters and dialogue.  Despite it’s flaws, it has good flow though it does suffer from some continuity problems.  I do appreciate the chance to ...

The Dying Times receives 5 Star Review!

Posted by:

My first novel, The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story, has received a five-star review from a professional reviewer.  This is great news!  The novel is due to be out by the last week in November, 2010.  The review should be placed in the October issue of the Midwest Book Review, and also posted on the reviewer’s blog, Whispering Winds Book Reviews.  Now, I’m just waiting on the cover art to be completed, and we’re in ...

d10 Core – Second Edition, Sample of Chapter 2

Posted by:

This is an older article. Please refer to the newer stuff!

I have decided to upload the draft copy of Chapter 2 of the the d10 Core Roleplaying Game System Second Edition to the website in order to get some feedback.  I have had one brave soul give me some tips at RPG.net, but, alas, aid is not forthcoming.

This is in response to the weaker mechanics found in the first edition of the rule set, amongst other concerns, ...

Minify – A great plugin

Posted by:

I have been struggling for a week or two with how sluggish WordPress was running, so I started looking around the internet for solutions.  I went through everything – or so I thought.  I even started looking at other web hosts, thinking that iPage was the problem.  Well, I found a plugin called Minify that seems to be the answer to all of my prayers.

Let me start off by saying that ...

SmartRoller Dice Probability Calculator (Free)

Posted by:

I found a piece of software that is amazing and very useful for any aspiring roleplaying game designer or anyone checking out dice mechanics in existing roleplaying games (or in any dice system, for that matter).  That software is SmartRoller.  In this article, I will discuss briefly its features.  It’s also free to download, free to use, which is an even bigger, added bonus.

Since I am planning the redesign of the d10 Core Roleplaying Game System for ...

d10 Core – Second Edition planned

Posted by:

After looking over the d10 Core Roleplaying Game System after being released, and with the feedback of many, many people, I have decided to go ahead and move into the second edition without further delay.

This decision was based on several factors, such as loopholes in rules, items needing clarification, some definitions, and problems with the dice mechanics.  Many people that read over the entire book didn’t quite understand how things were suppose to work, so, some things are staying the ...

d10 Core noticed on “Observations of the Fox”

Posted by:

The d10 Core System has been talked about on another blog, Observations of the Fox.  I have made a reply, so I’ll have to wait to see if it makes it into the comments section there.

I have heard of the Fuzion system referenced on the page, but I haven’t read or played it, so I can’t really comment as to any similarities between the two.  I’ve always played White Wolf and ...

State of the Art Address #1

Posted by:

I have decided to make a little “address” to those who frequent here to inform everyone who may be interested as to the state of how everything is going.

I will cover topics on the d10 Core Roleplaying System, its supplements, and the first-ever novel by yours truly, The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story, amongst some other things.

First, I will cover the topic of The Dying Times: Nadene’s Story, which is finished as of this writing.  The final manuscript will probably ...
